Two Straw Polls, Two Wins for Ward 3 Candidate
Las Vegas, NV – Demonstrating growing support coalescing behind his grassroots campaign for the Las Vegas City Council, Steve Evans emerged as the winner of the Si Se Puede Latino Democratic Caucus’ straw poll, taken last Friday evening immediately after a forum featuring Ward 3 candidates. Evans received 62% of the vote total at the event, held at the East Las Vegas Community Center.
“Given that the members of Si Se Puede are active, engaged and aware of the successes and the challenges present in Ward 3, I am very pleased to have earned this show of support,” Evans said. “For over 17 years as a resident of Ward 3 I have been dedicated to the creation of good jobs and smart growth, and to the protection and preservation of our neighborhoods. As a member of the Las Vegas City Council, I will continue to be an energetic and passionate voice for the established neighborhoods as well as the emerging ones in our Ward.
The East Las Vegas Community Center is a prime example of how government and citizens can work together to produce something needed and necessary,” Evans continued. “This Center is a cultural and community hub, and a testament to the stewardship of Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese and all the community leaders who worked to help make it a reality.”
The results of these straw polls show that many Democratic Party voters, who make up 60% of the total vote in Ward 3, are standing with Evans and his message of preserving and protecting neighborhoods while creating economic opportunity to revitalize the Eastern section of Las Vegas.
Evans also won the straw poll conducted by the Stonewall Democratic Club of Southern Nevada. Evans was recently endorsed by the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, the Las Vegas City Employees’ Association and over 30 neighborhood and civic leaders from Ward 3.
Evans is the current Chair of the Las Vegas Planning Commission, where he has served since 2001. A native Nevadan who grew up in a working family, and a resident of Ward 3 for over 17 years, Evans has dedicated his adult life to the protection and preservation of the neighborhoods in his Ward. He has also been a powerful force in the cultural and commercial renaissance of Downtown Las Vegas. Mayor Oscar Goodman recognized this, appointing Evans to the Board of Trustees of the Neon Museum and to the 2020 Master Plan Steering Committee.
